The Kids are Famous!

We went to the Farmer's Market in Anacortes a couple days ago and AlaskaDave spotted Derick, then the 2 girls confirmed that is was indeed Jr! They brought him over to where we were waiting for a pesto pizza...he say Dyl and said, "Look at the size of this one!!" Yes, that is what everyone says this summer!
So cool to meet you Dave!!
Deception Pass...we needed a beach fix!

I love this shot!

Alicia found the best piece of beach glass of the day!
A fort they found. And the interesting piles of rocks all over the inside.

Girls made some 4th of July themed cupcakes.

Izzy from next-door likes to visit!

Saturday Fun --Edited

I am acclimated to Unalaska again, I just ran to the landfill in shorts and a hoodie. The weather HAS improved, there is no wind and instead of miserable slushy stuff in the air there is a light fluffy snow falling.
Happy puppy...then cold wet puppy.
Today was BUSY as always...I took pictures of some of the activities, one hasn't happened yet!
Dills participated in his last community swim meet this morning. I admit I snuck away with AG to the GINORMOUS garage sale that MS's sophomore class put on in the cafeteria of the high school, I missed some of the meet, I only saw Dill swim the backstroke 2x, not his best event.
He was mad at himself for not swimming his best, he didn't want to eat lunch out as is our tradition after swim meets. Sonia and I went with AS and his buddy Chris. Manderzz was still home with her cold, I brought her back some chicken (thanks CB for reminding her that a girl needs her weekly chicken & fries meal!)
We then made Mandezz get out to the beach for some fresh air, it was so nice! There was lots of glass too. Bella was loving it until she got wet and cold.
Last night I rolled out a batch of sugar cookie dough and Manderzzz cut and baked the cookies. She made her own icing, found food coloring to make it Halloween-colored and decorated cookies while puppy sitting. I say a girl who can do all of that isn't sick anymore!!
Tonight is a teacher party at the Grand a fund raiser. Go-figure, isn't everything we do around here raising funds for one thing or another? I don't mind at all.
AG and I aren't teachers (I DO NOT have the patience, I admire you and all who do-- mamawas!!) but she is the secretary and I'm on the board so we get to go! Should be great.

I volunteered as a DJ with Jane yesterday for an hour. Oh man, we had to follow Dan Y and Darryl from the hotel --THEY'RE SO GOOD! We were not as professional nor as peppy! I have had several people say we fine and they liked my country music :) The radio station had coffee, cinnamon rolls and homemade muffins for breakfast, pizza for lunch and a party at 7pm to celebrate their GREAT week of fund raising --our town loves our radio station, I hear they took in two times what their goal was, but Jane can talk about that on the UCB blog!!!
I couldn't go to the UCB party as we watched MS play volleyball, she has really improved! Good Job!

Ohhhhh that was AFTER we walked the track at the PCR watching AS's basketball practice and AG locked her keys in her vehicle... OMG I was laughing so hard, she had to get the police to help! She'll be in the famous blotter hehehe....I took a picture with my phone, but it's blurry...

Lots of Glass After the Storms

Dills and PT cracking up!
5 teens and entirely too much technology!
Is that our very own cheerleader in a letterman's jacket??
My haul! Lots of very old pieces!! SWEEET!
AG found a crumbling boulder that just fascinated her.
A perfect light blue piece of sea glass...blue is rarely "done" We've concluded that cobalt blue never gets rounded and pitted, it always looks sharp --has anyone found a cobalt piece that is really sea glass?
opps the camera was set on black & white..

I'm wiped out...work has been busy and weird knowing that I only have one week left. I've got all the piles of "stuff" that I pulled out which I've been putting away when I can. My husband will be home today! For a whole day and a half...boat trip, the glamorous life of being married to a boat guy --they're gone, a lot. So glad I've just got a week left...so tired.
So...on Thursday night it was warm-ish and calm-ish. AG and I went to Glass Beach to see if the storms had stirred up and sea glass, we ran into CB, and all searched together.

We had 5 extra boys over last night for gaming....my job was to try to keep them all fed --3 of them are well over 6 feet and were starving -- I was sound asleep when they all arrived, Jr ran to the store and I fed them convenience food and homemade cookies -- I had dough in the freezer.

This Beach is Definately NOT Glass Beach!

Anyone have a guess what this could be with the cute nubbin?
Daisys? I'll look it up at home in my "Wildflowers of Unalaska" book! http://www.press.uchicago.edu/presssite/metadata.epl?mode=synopsis&bookkey=271764

Manderzz thought the texture of this rock was very cool.
He's goofy sometimes. A bone from a fin? Again...I'm a blondie... Patty says it's a scapula. And I got As in A&P --both semesters! Oops.
I'm assuming this is where the scapula came from. No clue what it is. Anyone?

I think someone was fishing with a energy drink can, some line and a lure. There is a ton of kelp and a lot of rocks on this beach. I think they gave up quickly as the lure was like new.
Who would rock climb here? If you fell you are quit aways from the clinic and a long way from Anchorage!
In some places it was like someone poured concrete on the beach! Grandpa is so quick! He likes to be in front in case there are treasure to be found!

Manderzz liked this one too. There is a ginormous rock across the bay like this that I love. the water is 30 feet deep right at the edge of the rock, and it's got a pattern like the other rock picture I took...hopefully in the next week we'll make it over there.
Another rock climbing set-up...we should go AG! You first...
Flowers growing out of the rock.
She's not posing --that's her regular smile, really!
This was one of the rockier beaches we've hiked.
"Hot Man Chicken" My husband found this piece of wood....RANDOM!!
Anyone know the history of the gigantic anchor in concrete on the beach?

Last night we planned on walking the spit beach, but when we got there my husband suggested we check out the beach to the left...going out toward I don't know what I have absolutely no sense of direction. I went to the library to ask the famous blogging librarian...she wasn't there hmmph! You have days off Lauri???! So I asked the famous author Liberian Cora! http://www.coraholmes.com/ She knew..it's Ulakta Head...duhhh. I knew that.

It was evident that not too many walk this beach. There was only one piece of sea glass! It was a very unique piece, so that makes it worth it. Manderzz found it as she first stepped on the beach...for 90 minutes after that --'nuthin...ohhh I did find a new lure and Grandpa grabbed some metal circular things that go on crab pot set ups to enable undersized crab to escape. Evidently we now own a handful of these LOL, he got them for us!
It's still gray and I think I shamed the guys into going fishing today...I only asked if they're made of sugar, told them that Irene was given a silver already and lamented that I've forgetten what fresh halibut tastes like...I'm sort of mean!

Beachcombing With Grandpa

Not much of a haul for a 90 min hike, but it was nice to be outside!
Nobdy even takes the driftwood from this beach that is right by town, it's just not easy to get down to.
Grandpa is very spry...we were impressed!
This was cool --a natural pool. There are rocks all around in a circle.
Grandpa modeling a pair of gloves he found right by Little Priest Rock
I've never been next to this big rock, I've only seen it from the road --did everyone know there is a hole through it? I need to be more attentive I guess. I had no clue.

Grandpa loves to walk on beaches! We can indulge him, gladly! There are sooo many beaches to walk here. We're going to hit as many as we can. We walked along the road to Summer Bay yesterday after dinner, it is rocky, steep and not the greatest beach...we have always wanted to check it out. All we found were 3 pieces of beach glass and 1 cute little shell. It's raining right now, too bad, we want to be out hiking another beach!
