Harbor Seal for Lunch & Camp Q f/r Auction

Dills and his giant pile of harbor seal boiled with patrushki....he loves it. I tried a bite, the photo he took is not good. Cannot share it. LOL, maybe there was too much patrushki in my portion, it tasted like seaweed. YAY! Dills...he enjoys so much of the traditional food the locals prepare.
There was an auction, I had to have this unique beaded bracelet, it has a lot of lime green. I outbid AB...There were some awesome earrings too, I hope the artist-- JB will sell some to me!
Dills getting his certificate.
The famous, or is it infamous Jerah Chadwick was the auctioneer. He lived in Unalaska for many years was a college english professor for our branch of the Univ. of Alaska Fairbanks, was poet laureate for the State of Alaska a couple years ago, he's Pattycake's bentwoods hat helper and friend to many here --last year the Q-tribe made him an honarary member!
Manderzz recieving her certificate.

My last post about Camp-Q....really! It's just a very cool week, my kids love it, it's one of the coolest things we have here!

More Camp...Bentwood Hats, Weaving & Survival Suits

Manderzz with her weaving project --next year she gets to make a basket! She's very excited.
A couple of her weaving mentors...Kathy Dirks isn't in the picture, they were all very kind and helpful....but she REALLY enjoys Kathy!
Pattycakes....with Ashley and her almost-complete mini-full-crown bentwood hat.

Dyl's full-sized visor, not quite complete. Next year-- a big full-crown hat like the minis that the girls made.

Manderzz' mini-full-crown bentwood hat. Needs some sanding and painting/decorating...good thing we have connections...Patty? We have cookies!??

Reid and Sarah Brewer had some of the campers/mentors/Q-tribe employee participate in a survival suit demonstration, it was great fun to watch.
Pattycakes the QUEEN of bentwood hats --she's amazing...travels to camps from Kodiak to Unalaska sharing her skills with many.....come over, bring paints, so we can get some of these hats finished, k? I'll bake whatever you want...you're awesome and very appreciated.

Dancing at Camp Qungaayux

Juno & DJ's class of Unangan dancers. Dills is in red and Manderzz is in the middle behind the boy with a white t-shirt.
LOVE the happy smile Juno!

Those pants are hard to miss!

Recognize CO from the back? His buddy AS is on vacation we haven't seen him much in the past week, he was the most enthusiastic student in the class, cute!!

Manderzz, with the cool new layered hair. I'm going to see if her and Juno will dance at one of our bonfires --yeah right! I'd have to bribe her with a big order of clothing from Delia's, Justice or Abercrombie Kids --she's gotten way too good at looking at clothing for me to buy for her!

Moses Dirks, my kids' favorite MALE teacher (Pattycakes is their favorite too!!) and DJ.

Dyl and the other drummers...Larz and one of Alena's nephews --Nicky? is in the group too.

So, Juno...I tease her a lot...it's my job as her boyfriend's mum, right?? But she and Pattykins' daughter DJ teach dance at culture camp and they do a nice job! Manderzz would've rather been weaving and Dyl prefers bentwood hat making. Manderzz hid in the second row and Dills brought the drum he made last year to avoid dancing, that works..too bad he had his hood on!

Grandpa Arrives! Heading out Camp Q

He's here!! My husband has been waiting 11 years for his dad to see Unalaska!
The M/V Tustemena....it seemed huge when I was a kid. So many ginormous vessels come to Unalaska it doesn't seem THAT huge anymore.

Salmon dip & crab for the potluck.
On the deck waiting for the crew to secure the ferry and get the ramp up (seemed to take forever!)
We saw him in the solarium before he saw us!

The ferry was later than the harbor guy said, darn it! We waited for 90 minutes, but my husband's dad is here! They're off looking at boats...or something. I'm heading out to the culture camp to see what the kiddos are working on....we had some crab that was taking up precious room in my husband's freezer --halibut, salmon and MOOSE are more important to us...and I made some salmon dip too. I'm down to 4 pints of canned salmon. Time to put up several cases!
More on camp later...

Happy Campers & I was in Dutch Harbor Last Night!

Manderzz actually got some sun yesterday! She never even tans on vacation!
Mellychops jr. is gorgeous and camera-ready even after 10 hours of camping!
Juno is teaching Unangan (Aleut) dance to the campers. Her and Jr are making Baked Alaska with some thin brownies that weren't getting eaten. The final step should be this weekend sometime. Maybe SAT night? There is a outdoor BBQ tonight....hey anyone know what's on the menu??
I think Dills got a bit of color too..but he was also being very allergic to something this morning (poor guy! It's a never-ending battle)

I can't make it out to the Culture Camp. AKA Camp Qunagaayux or "Camp Q" Too many of my co-workers are there and I am one of the ones "holding the fort" here at the clinic....BUT I will go tomorrow for the potluck!
Dills announced that he is LOVING hat making YAY for Pattycakes super-hat-maker!! (did you get your cookies? I was baking at 5:30am today!) Next year Dills hopes to make a complete full-sized hat, not just a visor. Manderzz is still on a mini-visor, but she's very proud and proudly announced that she's a natural carver!
She's also quite the weaver...she really enjoys that class. They have other classes too. But I don't hear as much about them :)
Dyl has had some challenges avoiding wheat, but we've sent food and he has tried some new ones too. Fish head soup is evidently a delicious meal! (I don't plan on trying it, sorry) Salmon eyeballs are "Just like gummy bears, but without the sugar" hmmm why doesn't everyone that reads this boil some up and see if that's true???

Last night I went with my husband to move his skiff from where he had it tied up next to the big boat over to the launching ramp.... I drove the entire way! I played in Dutch Harbor! I just had to say that :) It was so fun, but we didn't have a camera --next time we'll get a picture or two. My father-in-law arrives on the ferry tomorrow....it's going to be BUSY for the next 9 or 10 days in my household!!

I'm at 200 Posts..Time Flies!

Dills was ohhh so thrilled to be up at 7:30am today for Camp Qungaayux.
Manderzz always has the perfect outfit for any occassion, her new cool boots aren't here yet though, maybe they're the package that's at the PO.
We went hiking on the beach past Morris Cove yesterday when he finally got up!
It was so warm I didn't have a jacket on! That is RARE!

Yesterday our whole family was pretty tired after being up past 3am! (or 6 for my husband....he had to check out all his packages!) But it was warm in the afternoon and we went for a hike at Morris Cove. The rest of the day we pretty much did nothing. My husband did work on cleaning up the very back of my RAV which got wet at some point and was a bit of a mess and played tennis with Manderzz, got the teens back on track for doing their homework! (not my fault Jr. insisted on taking pre-calc on his own!)
