OK, I'm still in FREEZING cold FAIRBANKS, still doing schoolwork 13 hours a day...Why did I think going back to school was a great idea? Ohh well...
So our very cultured society in Unalaska includes piano recitals twice a year plus a few very nice events that the Aleutian Arts Council sponsors. And at least 2 band concerts too. Our daughter has been playing for 4 or 5 years, we're very proud of her...the teacher has her students composing and making CDs even! They're working on the 3rd one right now.
I think it was 2 years ago that an acquaintance GAVE us a piano! He just wanted it to go to a home where it would be loved and played...that it is...thanks Ed!!
Band is cool in Unalaska...that also amazes me, I DO NOT complain!! Our younger son is in the Jr. High Band and the Pep band too.
When I was in highschool band was definatly something the cool kids participated in. My senior year was the only year that I didn't do band. We have a very musical and arts oriented community, thats what I love about this place...it takes culture to a whole new level.
